Banī Suhaylā lies in the southern Gaza Strip, just east of Khan Yunis, on the low coastal plain that slopes gently towards the Mediterranean. On a map the town merges almost seamlessly with its larger neighbour. Its streets form a dense but irregular pattern around an older core, and the buildings spread out along the roads that lead further inland.
East of the town, the map traditionally showed a patchwork of small agricultural plots, greenhouses and orchards reaching towards the eastern boundary of the Strip.
