Village clusters
Groups of homesteads spread across a wide area. They form irregular islands of streets and plots that together give Baniachang its unusually large footprint.

Baniachang Map Poster & Print
Baniachang is an upazila town in Habiganj district, in the Sylhet Division of north-eastern Bangladesh. It is often described as one of the largest villages in Asia. The reputation comes from how widely its neighbourhoods spread across the land, not from a dense urban centre. On a map the settlement appears as many clusters loosely joined by paths and roads.
Water shapes almost everything here. The area lies in the haor region, a low basin that floods for months during the monsoon, and homesteads are built on raised ground between ponds, canals and wetlands. From above, the pattern looks like islands of houses and trees set in a network of water that changes with the seasons.
A Baniachang map poster reduces this intricate landscape to lines and shapes: the curved outlines of ponds, the irregular clusters of homes and the roads linking them to the district town. It is a very different image from a gridded city, and that difference is what makes it compelling to look at.

Ponds and channels
Numerous ponds and small waterways lie between the settlements. They are drawn as rounded and winding shapes that give the map a soft, organic texture.
Haor lowlands
The low basin around the town floods seasonally and leaves broad open areas on the map. They show how much of daily life here is organised around water.
