Old Port and citadel
The small, rounded Old Port is overlooked by the Terra Nova citadel on its rocky promontory. Together they form the historic heart of the city and the most recognisable shape on its coast.

Bastia Map Poster & Print
Bastia stretches along the eastern shore of northern Corsica, where the long peninsula of Cap Corse joins the rest of the island. From above, the city is a narrow strip between the sea and steep, wooded hills, with streets running parallel to the coast and short, sharp lanes climbing inland. To the south, the shore flattens out toward the wide Biguglia lagoon.
The Genoese founded Bastia in the fourteenth century around a fortress, and the citadel quarter of Terra Nova still stands on its rocky spur above the Old Port. For centuries the city was the seat of Genoese rule over the island. Today the modern harbour, just north of the old one, handles ferries to mainland France and Italy.
A Bastia map poster is shaped by the coastline. The sea fills one side of the frame, the small curve of the Old Port and the citadel sit at its centre, and the streets rise in tight rows toward the mountains. It is a compact, vertical city, and the poster shows how firmly it is held between water and rock.

Place Saint-Nicolas
This large open square faces the sea near the ferry harbour. Its broad rectangle stands out clearly against the dense streets around it and connects the old town with the newer centre.
Biguglia lagoon
South of the city, the coast opens onto the Biguglia lagoon, a long body of water separated from the sea by a thin strip of land. It adds a large, calm shape to the map.

Bastia is often the first sight of Corsica for people arriving by ferry, and the harbour and citadel stay in the memory. A map poster keeps that arrival in view, or marks a family connection to the island that goes back generations.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, in French, Corsican or English, and choose from five styles, including Blueprint and Noir, which suit maritime maps well. Download HD files for $9 or order a matte printed poster with an optional frame.
