Berezan lies east of Kyiv, in the flat, open farmland of Kyiv Oblast. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets with the typical Ukrainian mix of small houses on long garden plots. There are a few larger buildings near the centre, and the fields around it stretch in wide rectangles toward the horizon.
Water breaks up the flat ground. Ponds and small reservoirs, many of them formed by damming local streams, lie near the town. Their smooth outlines contrast with the straight lines of roads and field edges, and they give an otherwise level map a clear focal point.
