Bin Xian is the seat of Bin County in Heilongjiang, east of Harbin. It lies in the broad farming country along the Songhua River. From above, the town is a fairly regular arrangement of wide roads and large blocks. This pattern is typical of northeastern Chinese county towns, with residential compounds, markets and public buildings set inside the grid, and fields right up to its edges.
