Bowling Green is the county seat of Wood County in northwest Ohio, south of Toledo. The land here is extremely flat. It was once part of the Great Black Swamp, which was drained in the nineteenth century to create farmland. The map shows a regular street grid, with Main Street running north-south through the historic downtown.
East of downtown lies the campus of Bowling Green State University, a large area of academic buildings, residence halls, sports fields and parking lots. On the map, it forms a distinctive block of curved paths and large buildings next to the town's rectangular grid. Interstate 75 runs along the eastern edge of the city.
