Brak Map Poster & Print
Brak is an oasis town in the Fezzan, in south-western Libya. It lies in Wadi ash Shati, a long east-west valley where groundwater allows settlement and farming in the middle of the Sahara. From above, the inhabited land is a narrow ribbon, and the desert begins almost immediately on either side.
The town's streets are compact and roughly gridded. Around them are palm gardens and irrigated fields, including circular plots created by centre-pivot irrigation, which appear on the map as sharp, perfect discs. Roads follow the valley and link Brak with the other oasis towns spread along it.
North of the valley is a stony plateau, and to the south are the dunes of the Ubari sand sea. A Brak map poster shows how small the inhabited area is within that emptiness, a clear line of human settlement across a very large landscape.

Irrigated plots
Palm gardens and circular irrigated fields surround the town. The perfect circles are some of the most striking shapes on the map.
Valley road
A main road runs along the wadi and connects Brak to neighbouring oasis towns. It is the one long line tying the composition together.

For people from the Fezzan, including the many who have moved away, Brak is a place with a strong sense of home. A map poster captures the town and its oasis in a way that feels both personal and graphic.
Personalise the title in Arabic script or Latin letters, and add a subtitle and coordinates line. Sand is a natural fit for the desert setting, and Noir and Classic are also options. Download the files for $9 or order a printed poster.
