Brierley Hill is a town in the Metropolitan Borough of Dudley, in the Black Country west of Birmingham. It grew as an industrial town tied to iron, coal and especially glassmaking, and its high street runs along higher ground above the valley where industry once stood.
The map is shaped by canals. The Dudley No. 1 Canal passes through the area, including the flight of locks at Delph, and the Stourbridge Canal lies nearby. Below the high street, the Merry Hill shopping centre and the Waterfront development occupy land that was once a steelworks.
