Briton Ferry Map Poster & Print
Briton Ferry sits at the mouth of the River Neath in South Wales, between Neath and Port Talbot. Its map is shaped by movement: the river bending toward Swansea Bay, rail lines running along the valley floor, and the M4 crossing the estuary on a long viaduct. Terraced streets climb the slopes on the town's eastern side, following the contours of the hill.
The name refers to the old ferry crossing over the Neath, which was used for centuries before bridges replaced it. In the nineteenth century the town became an industrial port, with docks designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and works producing iron, steel and tinplate. Much of that industry has gone, but its outline is still visible in the landscape.
A Briton Ferry map poster captures the density of this small place. The curving river, the straight lines of road and rail and the tight terraces combine into a composition with a lot of character. It is a map that tells the story of South Wales industry without needing a single word.

M4 bridge
The motorway crosses the estuary on a long elevated bridge, a bold straight line across the river and one of the town's defining features.
Terraced slopes
Rows of terraced streets climb the hillside east of the river, following the contours in parallel lines typical of South Wales towns.

Briton Ferry means something specific to people from the Neath and Port Talbot area: the river, the bridge, the terraces up the hill. A map poster of the town keeps that picture in view, wherever home is now.
