Bukomero is a trading town in Kiboga District of central Uganda, and the map shows how much it depends on the road. The town stretches along the highway, with shops and houses lined up on both sides and short streets leading off toward homesteads. Beyond them, the land is a mix of farms, grazing land and paths.
Towns like Bukomero act as stopping points and markets for the surrounding rural area. Traders, farmers and travellers pass through every day, and livestock and farm produce move through the town toward larger markets. The town has grown steadily as the road has become more important.
