Catacaos Map Poster & Print
Catacaos lies just south of the city of Piura, in northern Peru, near the Piura River. From above, the town follows a regular colonial grid centred on its main square, with farmland and dry scrub around it. The river runs nearby, its broad bed dry for much of the year but capable of flooding in El Niño years.
The town is known throughout Peru for its crafts, especially fine silver and gold filigree jewellery and woven straw hats, as well as for its picanterías serving traditional northern food. Its main street of craft shops and the church on the square draw visitors from Piura and beyond.
A Catacaos map poster shows a compact, orderly grid in an open landscape, with the curve of the river adding a natural counterpoint. It is a fitting print for people from the Piura region and for anyone who has spent an afternoon among its workshops.
