Junction town
Several main roads meet in the centre, and the commercial streets form around those junctions. On the poster these crossing points give the map a clear focus.

Cherpulassery Map Poster & Print
Cherpulassery is a town in the Palakkad district of Kerala, in the area historically known as Valluvanad. It is not a gridded town. Its roads follow the uneven midland terrain, meeting at junctions and trailing off into lanes lined with houses, each set in its own garden or small plot of trees.
The town is known in Kerala for its temple culture, including festivals that bring music, ritual and processions to the streets. On a map, temple grounds and their ponds show up as small open spaces inside the continuous built-up area. Paddy fields in the low ground between the hillocks add flatter, calmer patches.
A Cherpulassery map poster shows the typical texture of settlement in Kerala's midlands. Houses spread along roads rather than packing into a single core, low ridges carry the lanes, and water and fields fill the hollows between them. In black and white the result is intricate but quiet, and very different from a planned city.

Temple grounds and ponds
Temple compounds and their tanks appear as small, defined open spaces within the town. They are subtle but characteristic features of the map.
Midland terrain
Lanes climb over low laterite hills and dip into paddy-filled valleys. The resulting street pattern is irregular, branching and visually rich.

Many people from Cherpulassery live and work far from Kerala, and a map of the home town is a simple way to keep its streets close. It is also an unusual, intricate design for anyone who loves the region.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are editable, including text in Malayalam. There are five styles to choose from: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Order a $9 set of HD files or a printed poster.
