Colonial grid
The centre follows the classic Spanish colonial pattern of square blocks around a central plaza, the most regular and clearly ordered part of the map.

Chimaltenango Map Poster & Print
Chimaltenango sits on a highland plateau west of Guatemala City, at an altitude where cool mornings and volcano views are part of daily life. It is the capital of the department of the same name, and from above its centre is a regular colonial grid around a central plaza, with newer neighbourhoods reaching out across the surrounding farmland.
The Pan-American Highway runs straight through the city, and much of its activity is organised along this road, which links the capital with the western highlands. Chimaltenango was severely damaged in the 1976 earthquake, and much of what stands today was rebuilt in the decades that followed. Antigua Guatemala lies a short distance away.
A Chimaltenango map poster balances two lines: the orderly grid of the colonial core and the long diagonal of the highway. Around the edges, slopes and gullies break up the plateau, and the street network follows them in uneven fingers. It shows a working highland town rather than a postcard view.

Pan-American Highway
The highway crosses the city as a long, strong line, with commercial strips and newer neighbourhoods growing up along both sides of it.
Plateau edges
At the edges of the built-up area, farmland, slopes and gullies interrupt the streets, so the city's outline is uneven and shaped by the terrain.

Guatemalans in the capital or abroad, especially in the United States, often keep strong ties to their home department, and this map is a simple way to honour that. It suits a kitchen, a hallway or a new family home.
You can change the title and subtitle, adding a family name or a date, and set the coordinates line. Choose among Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand, and download the files or order a print shipped from a partner.
