The walled centre
The historic town forms a dense, closed shape of short streets and small squares. Its outline follows the course of the former walls and stands out from everything around it.

Città di Castello Map Poster & Print
Città di Castello sits in the upper Tiber valley in northern Umbria. On a map the town is easy to read. A compact historic centre is still largely enclosed by its old walls, and the river runs just along its eastern side. Inside the walls, narrow streets connect a series of piazzas, churches and palaces. Outside, newer districts spread across the flat valley floor.
The town grew on the site of the Roman Tifernum Tiberinum and later flourished during the Renaissance. The young Raphael painted several early works for its churches. In the twentieth century it was the birthplace of the painter Alberto Burri, whose collections are displayed in the town. One is in a Renaissance palazzo, and the other is in former tobacco-drying sheds on the outskirts.
A Città di Castello map poster shows the contrast between inside and outside the walls. The historic core is a tight, almost oval network of lanes. Around it, ring roads, modern blocks and the straight lines of the valley take over. Low hills close in on both sides of the valley.

Upper Tiber
The Tiber passes right alongside the old town and continues through the flat valley. It is a long, calm line that sets the orientation of the whole map.
Valley and hills
Farmland and newer districts stretch along the valley floor, while wooded slopes rise on both sides. The poster frames the town within its landscape.

The map suits anyone who has walked Umbria's hill country, followed Raphael's early career or visited the Burri collections. The walled core gives the print a strong centre that works at any size, from A3 to 24×36″.
You can set the title and subtitle in your own words and keep or change the coordinates line. Then choose from Classic, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. It is available as a $9 digital download or as a printed poster, with an optional wooden frame.
