Dok Kham Tai is the main town of a district in Phayao Province, in the hills of northern Thailand. The province is largely rural, and the town is a market and administrative centre for the villages around it. On the map it appears as a modest cluster of streets within a broad agricultural landscape.
The layout follows the land rather than a plan. A main road runs through town with shops and public buildings along it, and smaller lanes branch off toward housing and local institutions.
