Ernst Thälmann Island Map Poster & Print
Ernst Thälmann Island, known in Cuba as Cayo Blanco del Sur, is a low, narrow cay off the island's southern coast. It is elongated and slightly curved, with an irregular edge of mangroves and sandy shoreline. It is uninhabited and has no roads, so the map shows only a thin shape set among shallow Caribbean water.
The island's name comes from a symbolic gesture. In 1972 it was renamed after Ernst Thälmann, a German communist leader, during the friendship between Cuba and East Germany. The story is still sometimes mentioned as a Cold War curiosity. Otherwise, the cay remains a quiet coastal island.
An Ernst Thälmann Island map poster is very minimal. The narrow outline runs across the frame, and there is little else to draw. It suits people interested in unusual place names, political history or the quieter parts of Cuba's coast.

Mangrove edge
Mangroves and sandy stretches make the shoreline uneven, with small points and shallow indentations along its length.
No settlement
With no roads or buildings, the island is shown only as an outline in shallow water. It is one of the simplest maps in the collection.

For people interested in Cold War history, or those with ties to Cuba or eastern Germany, the story behind this cay is part of its appeal. The map shows the place without needing much more.
