Gherla Map Poster & Print
Gherla lies in Cluj County in northern Transylvania, on the Someșul Mic river. In the eighteenth century Armenian merchants settled here and built a new town, once known as Armenopolis, on a deliberately regular plan. That order is still visible from above: straight, evenly spaced streets meet around a central square.
The Armenian Catholic cathedral, a Baroque building, stands on the main square and marks the heart of the historic layout. Gherla is also known for its large prison, housed in a former fortress, which held many political prisoners during the communist period. The river and the railway frame the town.
A Gherla map poster shows a rare case of an Enlightenment-era planned town in Transylvania. The clear grid of the centre, the winding Someș along one side and the villages and fields of the valley around it make a balanced, legible composition that rewards close inspection.

Cathedral square
The central square holds the Baroque Armenian Catholic cathedral and anchors the grid as the natural focal point of the map.
Someșul Mic
The river runs past the town in gentle bends, adding a soft natural boundary to the geometric street pattern.
