Güroymak lies in Bitlis Province in eastern Turkey, on the high plateau west of Lake Van. The town occupies a stretch of fairly open valley floor, with mountains rising on several sides. On a map, a compact grid of streets gathers along the main road, while farmland and pasture reach out towards the slopes.
The region is shaped by volcanic and mountainous terrain, and the area around Lake Van lies at a considerable altitude, with long, cold winters.
