Gyali Map Poster & Print
Gyali lies in the Dodecanese, in the channel between Kos and Nisyros, and belongs to the same volcanic system as Nisyros. From above it has an unusual hourglass shape: two rounded lobes of land joined in the middle by a low, narrow isthmus, with bays on either side. It is only a few kilometres from end to end and has no village of its own.
The two halves differ in their rock, one made largely of pumice and the other of obsidian and perlite, and both have been worked for their minerals. Pumice extraction has reshaped much of the island, and on a map the quarry areas, loading piers and service tracks are its most visible human marks.
A Gyali map poster captures a strange and memorable form: two masses of land held together by a thin line, set in the open Aegean between larger neighbours. The outline is so simple that it reads almost like a symbol, and it holds its own even at the smaller print sizes.

Pumice quarries
Large extraction areas have reshaped part of the island, appearing on the map as open ground crossed by tracks and connected to loading piers on the shore.
Between Kos and Nisyros
The island sits in the channel between its two larger neighbours, whose coastlines can be brought into a wider frame to show its place in the volcanic arc.

Gyali appeals to those who know the Dodecanese well, to geologists and to anyone who admires distinctive shapes. Its hourglass form is unlike most islands, and on a wall it reads almost as a graphic emblem rather than a map.
Add a title and subtitle of your choice, a date or the coordinates line, and pick Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits its geological character; Noir gives the two lobes a bold, sculptural contrast.
