Heqing lies in the northwestern part of Hainan, China's southern island province, in the low, gently rolling country between the central mountains and the Gulf of Tonkin coast. On a map, it shows as a compact cluster of streets set within a wide patchwork of fields, plantations and tree lines, with roads leading out to neighbouring villages and towns.
This part of Hainan is agricultural, and the landscape around Heqing is shaped by tropical farming.
