Main road meeting
Where the principal roads meet, lines gather into a small focal point. It is the closest thing to a centre in a very dispersed settlement pattern.

Izazi Map Poster & Print
Izazi lies in the Iringa region of Tanzania's southern highlands area, in lower, drier country than the upland town of Iringa itself. Much of the surrounding landscape is open savannah and farmland, and settlement tends to be spread out, with homesteads, fields and small centres linked by roads and footpaths.
On a map, Izazi looks nothing like a dense urban grid. There is a loose cluster of routes where the main roads meet, and from there a network of thinner tracks fans out across the land. Seasonal watercourses and changes in terrain influence where the paths run.
An Izazi map poster is a study in openness. Most of the frame is empty land, crossed by a few confident lines and a fine scatter of smaller ones. It is a spare composition that shows how people move across a wide rural landscape, rather than the density of a city.

Fanning tracks
Thinner roads and paths branch outward across the land. They form a delicate, irregular web linking homesteads and fields.
Open savannah
Wide areas with few or no roads surround the settlement. On paper these become large calm fields that give the drawing its sense of scale.

A map of Izazi is a personal piece, for someone who grew up there, worked there, or remembers time spent in the Iringa region. Its sparse lines make a quiet, contemplative poster.
