Open-pit mine
The terraced coal pit is the largest shape on the map, a series of stepped benches and haul roads that look almost like contour lines drawn by hand.

Jalai Nur Map Poster & Print
Jalai Nur lies in the Hulunbuir region of Inner Mongolia, a short distance from Manzhouli and the Russian border. The land around it is open grassland, flat and treeless, and on a map the town reads as a small, orderly grid set down in that space. Its most dramatic feature is not a street at all but the enormous terraced pit of its coal mine.
Coal has defined the place for more than a century. Among railway enthusiasts, the Jalainur mine was known as one of the last places in the world where steam locomotives worked in daily service. Archaeologists also know the area for the prehistoric human remains found near the town, which were published under the name Jalainur.
A Jalai Nur map poster captures the unusual proportions of the place: a compact block pattern, a railway line running through, and the stepped outlines of the excavation spreading beside them. Around it all lies the pale, empty steppe, which gives the design generous white space and a sense of distance that few urban maps have.

Rail through town
A railway line crosses the settlement and links it to Manzhouli and the wider network. On the poster it runs as a clean, confident stroke through the grid.
Steppe margins
Streets stop abruptly where the grassland begins, so the town sits as a crisp rectangle of blocks surrounded by open, almost blank ground.

This is a map for people with ties to the mines, the railway or the far north of Inner Mongolia, and for anyone drawn to industrial landscapes. Its stark geometry suits modern interiors and looks particularly strong in the Noir or Blueprint styles.
Every poster can carry your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, whether that is the town's name, a family surname or the year you lived there. Choose from five styles, then download HD files for $9 in six sizes, each a 300 DPI PNG plus a print-ready PDF, or order it printed and shipped.
