Kanegasaki Map Poster & Print
Kanegasaki is a town in southern Iwate, set on the broad Isawa alluvial fan between Kitakami and Oshu. The land is almost flat, and from above it reads as a patchwork of rice fields with homesteads spread across them rather than packed into villages. This scattered pattern, with farmhouses surrounded by windbreak groves, is one of the defining landscapes of the area.
The historic core preserves a former samurai quarter, the Jonai Suwakoji district, recognised as a protected group of traditional buildings. Its streets keep an older layout of hedged lanes and residential plots, a small, orderly pattern within the wider rural grid.

Samurai quarter
The Jonai Suwakoji district keeps the layout of a former samurai residential area. Its narrow, hedged lanes form a tight grid in the town centre.
Isawa fan
