Kibakwe is a small town in Tanzania's Dodoma region, in the central part of the country, where the land is mostly dry plateau broken by hills. On a map the settlement is compact. A few roads meet at its centre, and footpaths and farm tracks spread outward in many directions.
The surroundings matter as much as the town. Seasonal stream beds cut across the land and fill only in the rains, and small plots and homesteads are scattered along the tracks. From above the pattern is loose and organic, shaped by terrain and use rather than planning.
