Kodamthuruth lies in Alappuzha district of Kerala, south of Kochi, on the narrow coastal belt between the Arabian Sea and the backwaters. The name contains thuruth, a common Malayalam word for an island or raised piece of land. The map fits it: water is never far away, and the land is cut by channels and ponds.
There is no central grid here. Houses spread among coconut groves and small fields, reached by narrow lanes that often end at the water. The main road runs roughly north to south along the coast, parallel to the sea and the backwaters, and many shorter paths branch off it.
