Kodur lies in Malappuram district in northern Kerala, not far from Malappuram town. Like much of this part of the state, it doesn't have a sharply defined centre. Instead, homes and small clusters of shops spread along roads and lanes through a landscape of low hills, coconut palms and paddy fields.
The map reflects that dispersed pattern. Roads curve along the tops of ridges and wind down into the valleys, where rice fields and small streams create open, flat areas. The built-up area thins out gradually rather than ending at a clear edge.
