Kurumathur is in Kannur district, in the northern part of Kerala. It is not a town with a single dense centre. Like much of this region, it spreads across low laterite hills in a pattern of scattered houses, small roads and lanes that follow the land rather than a grid.
On a map, that pattern produces a fine, branching network. Main roads trace ridges and valleys, and smaller lanes split off to reach homesteads among coconut and areca palms. Small streams and paddy land fill the lower ground, while the built-up areas stay on the slopes.
