Lāharpur is a town in Sitapur district, in the heart of Uttar Pradesh's broad alluvial plain between Lucknow and the Nepal border. The land here is almost perfectly level, so the town's form is shaped less by terrain than by history: a dense older centre of narrow lanes, with newer neighbourhoods added along the roads leading out.
The town is traditionally associated with Raja Todar Mal, the finance minister of the Mughal emperor Akbar, who is often said to have been born here. Around the built-up area the map opens into a quilt of cultivated fields, groves, village tanks and small settlements, crossed by roads connecting Lāharpur to Sitapur and neighbouring towns.
