Salgado River
The river runs past the town and dominates the map. Its winding line, with banks that are often dry in the sertão season, anchors the whole composition.

Lavras da Mangabeira Map Poster & Print
Lavras da Mangabeira is a town in the interior of Ceará, in Brazil's semi-arid sertão. It sits on the Salgado River, which is the main organising line of the map. The river's course runs past the town, and the streets form a modest grid on the lower ground next to it. Beyond that, dry scrubland and low hills stretch out, broken up by farm tracks.
Near the town the Salgado cuts a narrow passage through rocky hills, a gorge known as the Boqueirão. It is the area's best-known natural feature. The first part of the town's name recalls the colonial-era mining workings, or lavras, that gave the settlement its early identity. The street plan is simple, but the river and the hills give the map real character.
A Lavras da Mangabeira map poster sets the compact grid against the winding river and the broken ground around the gorge. The result is a map with both regular and wild lines. It will mean most to people from the town and the Cariri region, but anyone who likes river maps will find it interesting.

The Boqueirão gorge
Near the town the Salgado forces its way through a narrow gap in rocky hills. On the poster this shows up as a pinch in the landscape around the river.
Riverside grid
The town's streets form a compact, mostly regular pattern on the lower ground by the river, with the church square and main streets at its centre.
