Longgu sits on the broad, flat plain of northwestern Jiangsu, close to the border with Shandong. From above, the landscape is almost entirely man-made geometry: straight roads, irrigation channels and field boundaries crossing at right angles, with villages scattered as small clusters between them. The town itself forms a denser node where several roads meet.
This is intensively farmed country, and the patterns on the map reflect long use of the land. There are no hills to interrupt the view, so the lines of transport and water carry the whole composition. Newer roads cut across the older, finer network of lanes, adding a second layer of structure.
