Salt pans
Large salt flats lie just outside Vila do Maio, once the heart of the island's trade. On the map they form a distinct area of flat, open ground by the shore.

Maio Map Poster & Print
Maio is one of the Sotavento islands of Cabo Verde, lying east of Santiago. It is among the flattest and least populated islands in the archipelago, roughly rounded in outline, with low hills in the interior and a coast lined largely with sand. From above, the map is open and uncluttered, with a few roads linking small villages around the island.
The main town, Vila do Maio, sits in the southwest. It was historically known as Porto Inglês, after the English ships that loaded salt here, and extensive salt pans still lie beside the town. Maio's long beaches and dunes are also important nesting grounds for sea turtles.
A Maio map poster is defined by its gentle outline and empty spaces. The town's short grid and the geometric salt pans next to it sit in one corner, while a loop of roads runs out to the villages. The rest is dry interior and long shoreline, framed by the Atlantic on all sides.

Vila do Maio
The island's main town, formerly Porto Inglês, sits on the southwest coast. Its compact grid of streets faces the sea next to a long beach.
Sandy coastline
Much of the island's shore is sand and dune rather than cliff. The outline is smooth and rounded, broken by only a few small headlands.

Maio is a map for Cabo Verdeans with ties to the island, for those in the diaspora, and for travellers who came for its quiet beaches. It is an uncomplicated shape that still feels personal.
Add a village, a family name or a date in the title and subtitle, and edit the coordinates line to suit. Sand fits the dunes and salt flats, while Classic black and white gives the outline a crisp, graphic look.
