Marco is a municipality in the north of Ceará state, in Brazil's Northeast, in the region inland from the Atlantic coast. The town centre is small and compact, with streets arranged around a main square and church in the pattern common to towns in the Brazilian interior.
Around the urban area, the map opens quickly into farmland and the dry scrubland typical of the Ceará backlands. Only a few roads connect Marco with neighbouring towns and the coast. The contrast between the dense centre and the sparse surroundings is striking.
