Martūru lies in the Ernakulam area of central Kerala, in the low, well-watered country of the Periyar river basin. Unlike a compact town with a clear centre, the settlement spreads in a looser pattern, with houses set along winding roads and lanes among coconut palms, rubber plots and fields.
