Mbanga Map Poster & Print
Mbanga lies in the Moungo department of Cameroon's Littoral region, north of Douala in a lowland of fertile soils. The town grew up as a centre for the plantations that cover the surrounding countryside, especially bananas, and on the map its streets form a loose, spreading network edged by the regular blocks of cultivated land and patches of forest.
The railway from Douala toward Nkongsamba passes through the town, and a branch line leaves here toward Kumba, making Mbanga a small junction in the regional network. The tracks and the main road give the map a clear skeleton, with neighbourhoods filling the spaces between them in a pattern shaped more by gradual growth than by planning.
A Mbanga map poster is a portrait of a working agricultural town: rail lines, market streets and the wide expanse of plantations reduced to fine black lines on a pale ground. For anyone from the Moungo, or anyone who has travelled the road and rail north from the coast, it is a precise and personal record.

Plantation belt
Large cultivated parcels, many of them banana plantations, surround the town and appear on the map as broad, regular shapes that contrast with the irregular urban core.
Organic street network
Away from the main road, streets branch and curve according to terrain and gradual growth, giving the neighbourhoods a loose, almost hand-drawn texture.

Mbanga is the kind of place people leave for Douala or abroad and never quite stop describing. A detailed map of its streets and rail lines gives that memory a fixed, exact form that can hang in a living room anywhere.
