Mehoni is a town in northern Ethiopia, in the lowland zone where the high plateau begins to fall toward the Afar region. The surroundings are broad and fairly level, with the mountains of the escarpment visible on the western side. On the map the town is a compact cluster of streets set within a wide agricultural landscape.
Its layout is simple. A few main roads carry most of the traffic, lined by blocks of houses and commercial buildings, and a finer network of lanes fills in between them. Beyond the edge of town, tracks and field boundaries spread across the plain toward neighbouring settlements.
