Meiktila Map Poster & Print
Meiktila lies in the dry zone of central Myanmar, south of Mandalay, and its map is dominated by Meiktila Lake. The long, irregular lake runs through the middle of the town and divides it into northern and southern parts, so the streets are arranged around its shores rather than in a single compact grid. A bridge crosses the water, linking the two halves.
The lake is an old reservoir that has long supplied water to the surrounding farmland in an otherwise dry region. Meiktila is also an important road junction and military centre. In 1945 it was the scene of a decisive battle, when Allied forces captured the town and cut the Japanese supply lines running through central Burma.
A Meiktila map poster is shaped above all by the outline of the lake, a long form with arms reaching into the surrounding land. Around it the town's streets, pagodas and markets fill the shoreline, while roads leave in several directions across the flat plain. In black and white, the interplay of water and streets becomes a clean, balanced drawing.

Lake crossing
A bridge carries the road across the water between the two halves of town, a short straight line over the lake that ties the composition together.
Crossroads town
Major roads meet here on their way between Mandalay, Yangon and the Shan hills to the east, so several long lines lead outward from the edges of the town.

Meiktila is a place many people connect with family history, whether through the lake, a local monastery or the events of the war. A map of its streets and shoreline is a quiet way to keep that connection present at home.
