Ridge roads
Roads tend to follow the higher ground between the valleys, so the network winds and branches instead of running in straight lines.

Mennānyam Map Poster & Print
Mennānyam is in northern Kerala, in the Malabar region near Kozhikode. Like much of rural Kerala, it has no sharp boundary between town and countryside. Houses sit in their own plots under coconut palms and are strung along roads that follow the gentle ridges, while the valleys between them hold paddy fields and small streams.
This settlement pattern is one of Kerala's most distinctive features, and it looks very different on a map from the compact towns elsewhere in India. Rather than a dense grid, Mennānyam appears as a branching network of roads and lanes. They spread evenly across the land, following the natural contours rather than a plan, and link one cluster of houses to the next.
A Mennānyam map poster shows that dispersed, organic structure clearly. The roads meander, fork and rejoin, and the lower land is marked out by streams and field edges. The overall effect is lively but uncluttered. It is a good match for a place many people remember for its greenery and its unhurried pace.

Paddy valleys
The lower land between the ridges is given over to rice fields and streams. On the print these areas form open bands between the roads.
Dispersed houses
Homes are spread across the landscape instead of packed into a centre. That gives the map an even texture from one edge to the other.

Many Malayali families live far from home, in the Gulf, in other Indian cities or abroad. A map of Mennānyam is a personal way to hold on to the lanes and fields of the home village.
Add a family house name, a wedding date or a line in your own words to the subtitle, along with exact coordinates. The poster comes in Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Paper keeps a soft, natural feel.
