Montichiari sits on the open plain between Brescia and Lake Garda, where the land is flat enough that many roads seem to run straight to the horizon. The river Chiese crosses the town from north to south, and a line of low hills rises beside the centre. That raised edge shows clearly in the street pattern, where lanes bend around the slope instead of running straight.
On one of those hills stands Castello Bonoris, a castle rebuilt in the nineteenth century on medieval foundations. Nearby is the Romanesque church of San Pancrazio. Castle hill
Castello Bonoris and the church of San Pancrazio sit on the low hills beside the centre. There the streets start to curve and tighten, in contrast with the straight roads of the plain.
Airport runways
