Old mud-brick quarter
The historic core of Mūţ includes an older quarter of mud-brick houses and narrow lanes. On the map it appears as a tight, irregular cluster among newer streets.

Mūţ Map Poster & Print
Mūţ is the principal town of the Dakhla Oasis in Egypt's New Valley Governorate, deep in the Western Desert. Dakhla has been inhabited since ancient times, and its settlements depend on groundwater that allows fields and palm groves to grow in an otherwise dry landscape. Mūţ is the administrative centre of the oasis.
From above, the contrast is sharp. The town's streets and blocks form a compact settlement surrounded by cultivated plots, and beyond them lies open desert. An older quarter of mud-brick buildings stands on raised ground in the town. Newer, more regular streets have been added around it, together with the roads that link Mūţ to the other villages of Dakhla.
A Mūţ map poster shows a settlement defined by its edges. There is dense town in the middle, cultivated land around it, and then almost nothing. Few maps show so plainly how water decides where people can live.

Oasis fields
Irrigated fields and palm groves ring the town. Their plots and tracks form a transition zone between the built-up centre and the surrounding desert.
Desert roads
Long, straight roads leave Mūţ across open desert toward the other villages of Dakhla and beyond. On the poster these single lines emphasise the town's isolation.
