Capitol complex
The government buildings sit together on a hill, forming a small, orderly footprint with symmetrical approaches that stands out clearly against the open land around it.

Ngerulmud Map Poster & Print
Ngerulmud has been the seat of government of Palau since 2006, when official functions moved from Koror to a new capitol complex in the state of Melekeok on the island of Babeldaob. It is less a town than a government site: the buildings of the executive, legislature and judiciary stand together, and very few people live in the immediate area.
On a map the complex appears as a compact, symmetrical arrangement on raised ground, with access roads curving up from the surrounding countryside. Beyond it, the largely forested interior of Babeldaob spreads in every direction, and a ring road, often called the Compact Road, circles the island and links its many small states.
The eastern shore of Melekeok lies a short distance away, with its reef flats and the village of Melekeok. A Ngerulmud map poster frames one of the world's most unusual capitals, a formal civic core placed in green, sparsely settled country, where the lines of the roads and the nearby coast carry most of the composition.

Compact Road
Babeldaob's ring road circles the island near the coast, a long looping line that ties the capital to Palau's other states and on toward Koror in the south.
Melekeok shore
The east coast lies close to the capitol, where the land meets reef flats and shallow water in a soft, irregular shoreline at the edge of the map.

Ngerulmud suits Palauans and their families overseas, people who have worked in Palau's government or diplomatic service, and travellers who drove the loop around Babeldaob. Its clear civic geometry in a green landscape makes a calm, uncommon image for an office or a hallway.
