Opelousas Map Poster & Print
Opelousas is the seat of St. Landry Parish, on the prairies of south-central Louisiana. The town centre is a grid focused on the courthouse square, with historic streets radiating a few blocks in each direction. Around this core, newer neighbourhoods and highway corridors extend outward, and the land beyond is flat farmland crossed by bayous and drainage lines.
Founded as a French colonial trading post, Opelousas is among the oldest cities in Louisiana. During the Civil War it briefly served as the state capital. It is also closely associated with zydeco, the Creole music of accordion and rubboard that grew up on these prairies and still defines the region's sound.
An Opelousas map poster pairs an old, compact core with the looser patterns of later growth. The courthouse square sits at the centre like a fixed point, the highways run outward like spokes, and the open prairie frames it all. In fine lines, the map has a quiet, grounded character, well suited to a town that carries a long history.

Highway spokes
Several highways leave Opelousas in different directions, drawing long lines across the prairie that connect the town to Lafayette and the rest of Acadiana.
Prairie setting
Flat farmland surrounds the town on all sides, crossed by small bayous and field roads, so the urban area stands out as a clear, compact shape.
