Oswego is a village in Kendall County, Illinois, on the Fox River southwest of Chicago. It began as a small river town in the nineteenth century and has grown rapidly in recent decades as part of the Chicago metropolitan area.
On the map, the Fox River is the strongest feature, running diagonally through the village. The older downtown sits beside it in a small, regular grid. Around that, newer subdivisions spread out in curved streets, loops and cul-de-sacs, bounded by long straight roads that follow the old survey lines across the flat prairie.
