Palma Soriano lies in Santiago de Cuba Province in the east of the island, in the valley of the Cauto, Cuba's longest river. From above, the town forms a compact pattern of rectangular blocks, with the river running along one side and farmland stretching into the surrounding countryside.
As in many Cuban towns, a central park and main streets anchor the plan, and the blocks repeat around them with single-storey houses facing the street. The road to Santiago de Cuba leads out to the southeast, and smaller roads connect the town to surrounding farms and sugar and coffee areas.
