Phek lies in the hills of northeast India, close to the border with Myanmar. From above, the town is shaped by terrain rather than by a grid: roads wind along ridges and descend into valleys, and buildings cluster where the slopes allow, often following the contours of the hills.
The surrounding landscape is steep, green and heavily forested, with terraced fields and small settlements scattered across the hills. This is the homeland of Naga communities, and the region is known for its terraced agriculture and village traditions that remain closely tied to the land.
