Wide areas of rice fields between the settlements appear as open ground on the map, giving the composition calm and balance.

Pirāyiri Map Poster & Print
Pirāyiri is in Palakkad district in Kerala, close to the town of Palakkad and the wide break in the Western Ghats known as the Palakkad Gap. The land is fairly flat by Kerala standards and heavily farmed. Rice paddies fill the low ground, while houses and coconut palms follow slightly higher strips and the roads that link them.
Unlike a compact town, Pirāyiri spreads out. Clusters of homes line the lanes, and open fields lie between them. Irrigation channels and traditional water tanks appear throughout, part of the system that has kept the region's paddies productive. Larger roads toward Palakkad and the neighbouring districts cut straighter lines through this pattern.
A Pirāyiri map poster makes the most of that dispersed pattern. The winding lanes and scattered clusters of homes create a fine, lacy network. Tanks and canals add small points of solid water, and open fields provide calm negative space. The overall effect is gentle and detailed, and it rewards a slow look.

Tanks and canals
Traditional water tanks and irrigation channels appear as small solid shapes and thin lines scattered among the lanes and fields.
Lane-side settlement
Homes follow the local roads in long, irregular strands, so the built area looks like a branching network, not a single block.
