Rabinal Map Poster & Print
Rabinal lies in a valley in the Guatemalan department of Baja Verapaz, surrounded by hills that are noticeably drier than the cloud forests further north. Most of its population is Achi Maya, and the town has a strong cultural identity rooted in its language, crafts and ceremonies.
It is best known for the Rabinal Achí, a pre-Hispanic Maya dance-drama still performed here, which UNESCO recognised as a masterpiece of intangible heritage. The town's layout reflects its colonial founding, with a regular grid of streets centred on the plaza and the large church.
A Rabinal map poster shows that colonial order set within a natural landscape. There are straight blocks at the centre, looser streets at the edges, and then streams and winding roads leading out between the hills. It is a map of a place where the past is still performed in the streets.

Valley setting
The town fills a basin between ranges of hills, and roads and streams run through the gaps between them.
Loosening edges
Toward the outskirts the regular grid gives way to irregular lanes and scattered plots that merge gradually into the surrounding farmland.
