Riverview lies in south-eastern New Brunswick on the south bank of the Petitcodiac River, directly across from Moncton. The river here is tidal, influenced by the Bay of Fundy, and it is known for its tidal bore, a wave that travels upstream with the incoming tide.
From above, the town stretches along the river, with a main road following the bank and residential streets climbing gently to the south. Many streets curve and loop in the style of post-war suburbs, while parks and wooded areas, including the Mill Creek area, break up the pattern.
