Roth lies in Middle Franconia, south of Nuremberg, where the Roth river flows into the Rednitz. On a map, the old town sits compactly near the confluence, with Schloss Ratibor, a Renaissance palace, at its centre. The town is internationally known for Challenge Roth, one of the largest long-distance triathlons in the world, which brings thousands of athletes and spectators every summer.
