Saint-Cloud rises on the slopes west of Paris, directly above a bend of the Seine. Across the river lies the Bois de Boulogne, and the Pont de Saint-Cloud links the two banks. The town's streets climb the hillside in curves and terraces, following the gradient rather than a strict grid.
A large share of the map is taken up by the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud, the park of a former royal château destroyed in 1870. Its long, straight avenues, formal allées and cascades form a pattern of radiating lines through the woods, very different from the town streets beside it.
