Dense central lanes
At the heart of town, narrow lanes and closely packed buildings form an irregular mesh. This is the darkest and most detailed part of the poster.

Sarāi Ākil Map Poster & Print
Sarāi Ākil lies in Kaushambi district in Uttar Pradesh, on the fertile land between the Ganges and the Yamuna west of Prayagraj. The ground is almost completely flat, so roads shape the map rather than relief: a dense knot of lanes at the centre, main routes out to neighbouring towns, and villages scattered across the fields.
Like many towns of the doab, it grew as a trading point for the surrounding farmland. The word sarai in its name recalls the roadside inns that once served travellers across northern India. The district is named after ancient Kaushambi, one of the major cities of early Indian history, whose remains lie in the same region.
A Sarāi Ākil map poster brings out the contrast between the tight, irregular lanes of the town and the open ground around it. With no hills or coastline to lean on, the design depends on the texture of the street network itself, which gives the print a quiet, graphic quality.

Roads across the doab
Main roads leave town in several directions over the level plain. They are the few long, confident lines in an otherwise fine-grained composition.
Open farmland
Fields surround the town on all sides. In the print they leave calm, pale space that makes the built-up centre stand out.

For people from Kaushambi district living in Prayagraj, Delhi or abroad, this map keeps the shape of home on the wall. It shows the lanes someone walked every day, drawn with the same care usually given to much larger cities.
